China launches direct route from Guangzhou to western coast of Latin America
The route will be operated with 11 vessels.
China has opened a new route connecting Guangzhou's Nansha Port with key ports in South America.
Marking the launch of WSA3 route, a shipping vessel docked at the Phase II Terminal of the Nansha Port in Guangzhou. It will be loaded with 400 containers of electronics, household appliances and other products manufactured in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The route, operated with 11 vessels of 10,062 TEU container capacity, will connect the Nansha Port with key ports in Latin America, including Chancay Port in Peru, Manzanillo Port in Mexico and San Antonio Port in Chile.
Specifically, Chancay Port, South America's first smart and green port and a model of China-Latin America infrastructure cooperation, will shorten transport time to 23 days and lower logistics costs by over 20%.
China’s Customs data showed that the trade volume between Beijing and Latin America has grown from around $12b in 2000 to approximately $500b in 2024.
Aside from manufactured goods, this link is also seen to boost the exchange of commodities such as tropical fruit, Pacific coast seafood, and Andean wines, thanks to the Nansha port’s 227,000-metric-ton multistory cold storage facilities.
