Imabari Shipbuilding completes 40,000 DWT bulk carrier

It can transport coal, ore, long objects, coils, and grains.

Imabari Shipbuilding, Japan's largest shipbuilder, has announced the completion of the 40,000 deadweight ton (DWT) bulk carrier "AFRICAN REDWING".

The vessel features a semi-box-shaped hold structure with top side tanks, allowing for efficient alternate loading of high-density cargo (up to 3.0 t/m³). Its 5-hold/5-hatch configuration enables the transport of coal, ore, long objects, coils, and grains.

Equipped with four deck cranes and folding-type hatch covers, the ship is designed for efficient cargo handling.

The company also said that the vessel meets MARPOL Phase 3 emission standards whilst also adhering to Phase 2 requirements. It is fitted with a ballast water treatment system and an inventory list aligned with the Ship Recycling Convention.

The vessel is also equipped with energy-saving attachments near the propeller, a highly efficient propeller, and friction-reducing hull paint, all contributing to improved propulsion performance.
