Maersk orders eight 18,600 TEU vessels from China
It will feature dual-fuel engines capable of running on bunker fuel or LNG.
Maersk has signed a contract with New Times Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. in China for eight new 18,600 TEU container ships, set for delivery in 2029 and 2030.
At 366 meters long and 58.6 meters wide, the ships are slightly smaller than the industry maximum of 400 meters, offering greater deployment flexibility.
The vessels will feature dual-fuel engines capable of running on bunker fuel or liquefied natural gas.
Anda Cristescu, head of chartering and newbuilding at Maersk, said the vessels are part of their fleet renewal and help maintain their competitive edge.
With this order, Maersk now has 33 vessels on order, including four scheduled for delivery in 2026.
