Singapore and UNCTAD sign agreement to boost maritime decarbonisation and digitalisation

The partnership promotes alternative fuels and digital solutions for ports worldwide.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to strengthen global efforts in maritime decarbonisation and digitalisation.

The partnership will focus on promoting alternative fuels and digital solutions for ports and countries at different levels of readiness, combining UNCTAD’s trade development expertise with Singapore’s experience as a major global port hub.

The MOU was signed by Tan Hoe Soon, assistant chief executive (Corporate & Strategy) of MPA, and Vinod Nair, chief of the budget and project finance section of UNCTAD.

Both organisations will collaborate on sharing knowledge and best practices in areas such as sustainable finance and manpower development.

The partnership will also support capacity-building initiatives and technical training programmes aimed at helping developing countries enhance maritime capabilities and improve port resilience.
